Aron Stephens MA, BCC, BCPC

Texas Native I was born in Dallas, Texas and grew up as an only child. My parents divorced early and I was raised by a single mom who put it all on the line to ensure I would have a fighting chance in this life. We moved around a lot and I ended up having a wide exposure to many different denominations. I didn't know it at the time but this would be key in my spiritual formation for ministry later on. Because of her love and sacrifice, I can say I am where I am today. Every family, has some level of dysfunction and mine was no exception. I certainly was learning to navigate through life while ignoring the cracks in my own soul. Simultaneously, my passion and love for helping others started early on and going into college, I knew I longed for adventure and the ability to stand with others when no one else would. My time at Asbury University in Kentucky was filled with ministerial adventure, to include India, and Peru, as well as varsity soccer and the awkward process of growing into manhood. Early Ministry and Seminary After College, I ended up taking a couple youth pastor positions. Those jobs taught me a lot about the responsibilities entrusted to any minister as well as the ability to trust God through some pretty amazing circumstances. I grew in my fledgling abilities, and learned that while I loved the Lord, church ministry was not quite the right fit. This was confusing because I knew I was called to ministry and that I longed to spend my life on the front lines in service to the Lord. The calling best reflected a desire to live out C.T. Studd's quote "Some want to live within the sound of the chapel bell; I want to run a rescue mission within a yard of hell." As such, I knew it was time to continue my education and I enrolled in Seminary. During this time I married my first wife and continued to work through a lot of my own junk and pain. In 2009, I finally graduated from Regent University and was accepted into active duty as a Chaplain in the U.S. Army. Post Army to Today My time in the Army forged in me resilience. I ended up deploying twice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. I was honored to serve as a Chaplain alongside Australia's Task Force-66, Navy SEALs, Green Berets, Army Rangers, and my own unit. I also was assigned to, cared for and deployed with the unit who went through the 2014 Fort Hood shooting. Between those deployments, I went through a divorce and the death of my mother. The consequences of both marked and changed me in ways I never imagined. Those were some dark days, and it is a miracle I am here to talk about it. Through it all, I was honorably discharged in 2016.  Walking through those fires taught me to look long and hard at the mirror and to begin taking extreme ownership for my life. I knew I needed help walking through those issues and I ended up spending a season of time in counseling and Soul Care. Through that process, I knew the next chapter of my life would be spent standing next to those in the darkest and most impossible circumstances of their life. God delights in redeeming the impossible, no matter who you are or what you've done. By the grace of God, I'm married to an amazing Woman who brings out the very best in me. We enjoy the outdoors, our dogs, travel, and Texas Hill Country.  If you find yourself overwhelmed, or a little bit lost, know you have a warrior in your corner. Someone who has the iron in their spirit to walk through any of life's challenges with you. I was made for the fire, and the battle, and you'll soon see, so were you. Ready? And Forward! This is only a piece of our story, and I'm excited to see what God has in store. Our goal is to see others grow spiritually and emotionally as they draw closer to God and those they love.  We look forward to hearing your story and seeing God redeem and restore all the enemy has stolen.
